Riding For Rwanda Day 4

HEART OF HOLLAND RIDE - DAY FOUR- June 25, 2024

HOME SWEET SARAH HOME

“Who Does Good Meets Good” - Dutch proverb

I just finished my whole blog and then it disappeared so here goes a bullet list of fun random and good things we discovered today.

  • Because almost 40% of the population cycles the paths, whether they are in the forest (which we rode through today from Leiden to The Hague) or in the city, or alongside the highways they are well groomed and maintained.

  • The Peace Palace (gorgeous) is the beating heart of The Hague, the International City for Peace & Justice and home to the International Court of Justice & International Criminal Court (maybe this is why it is the safest city in Holland :)

  • Random. There are lots of storks here. One joined us for lunch in the city square.

  • The Dutch LOVE ice cream. It is everywhere.

  • The fame of Delft Pottery might not have been realized if not for the turnaround genius of a young engineer named Joost Thooft / he only lived to be 46 but his brainchild of cresting a new porcelain/ceramic powder saved the day. His initials are on every piece made to thus day (no we didn’t buy any - out of our price range ;))

  • Orange ruled the day.

  • We were treated to a fan in our room (not sure why - maybe the Polish Captain has a soft spot for the Canadians).

  • Fun fact hand washed clothes dry really fast.

So here we are - From Leiden to The Hague to back on board Sarah in Delft - it was a screamer of a day and tomorrow is forecasted to be in the 30’s.

On our way to Rotterdam.
